The thing which convinces the member in such situation is the Anti-Defection Act of 2003, provided by the Indian Constitution.
It states that going against whip of the party, i.e. Going against directions or visions of the party leads to not only loss of membership of the Parliament, but als disbarred from participating in the elections for min. Of 6 years. Thus, a member of the party would surely be convinced to support his or her own party decisions, which is ideally expected under the Collective Responsibility under Article 75(3) of our Indian Constitution.
