Good evening/morning/afternoon, to one and all present here. Today, I ....... am here to deliver a speech on the topic,We are living in worst of Times.

(in favor)

Dickens’ most acclaimed novel, A Tale of Two Cities, depicted common life in London and Paris during the late 18th century.  As troublesome as his well defined portrayal was to readers during his day, the desperate plight of those earlier times now seems downright gentile compared to the lurking dangers and anxieties of living in a seemingly dystopian modern world now filled with nuclear weapons, global terrorism, and the out break of fatal epidemics.

In so many ways, it seems we are living in the worst of times.  If there’s any doubt, take a look around.  Generations before never had to worry about people crashing airplanes into skyscrapers, or releasing biological or chemical weapons into our major cities.  Our ancestors lived mostly quiet lives on farms or in urban centers and kept to themselves.  They had much simpler lives.  Sundays were for church.  No one needed a Xanax.  Sure, daily life wasn’t always a picnic for ordinary people.  Life could certainly be hard.  Then again, the average medieval villager never had to endure a TSA search or suffer an IRS audit.

Do we live in a better time? That is hard to say..

So then, it would seem these are — the worst of times.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” A tale of two cities.A generation back, people had no cellphones or TVs. They chose their friends.  Today when things are bent on making life easier with the innovation and speed and whatnot at its peak, why can you not just breathe and enjoy living?

A thought crosses my mind. "The grass is always greener on the other side."

Its always how you choose to see it. You life, your time, all of it is your perception. You see the glass half-filled, it is. You see it half empty, i do not see a fault. It is all in your mind. How you tend to perceive it, how you take it.

Pros and cons are attributes. You need not worry about them.

On the context, listing points, yes we are on the period of moderation, where things are optimum, and they are good. So in a way, yes we are living up to the goals that we have set. The speed is good. Environment is good. We are not having world wars. Glaciers have just begun melting, and the earth has just began over heating. Technology has us at its ample. We live for 80 ears on an average. The literacy rate is good. So, I think that we should be happy with what we have at present. And we are not living in the worst of times cause things can get a lot more messier in the future. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.
