We can separate sand and water from their mixture by:
• Sedimentation and decantation: Being sand insoluble and heavier than water, it settles down at the bottom. Then after we can easily separate water from sand.
• Filtration: The mixture of sand and water is poured on a piece of cloth or filter paper so that water goes down through it and sand remains on the piece of cloth or paper.

"Sedimentation process is used to divide the mixture of constituents which are flour, bran, and sand. This process is used to split up particles which are light and heavy. In this process, the mixture is added to the water which makes the heavier particles to place down at the end and particles which are light enough collected on the top of the water placed in the container.

If we mix the mixture into the water, the sand particles come down in the bottom and then bran comes to the surface of the water in the container. So, first, we can split up the bran particles in the mixture. When water is poured into the cloth without disturbing the particles in the container, the flour is strained into the cloth and finally, we can collect sand which is at the end."
