Explanation:

You can use the double touch method of magnetization:-

Procedure :- Place the steel rod on a wooden table near one of its edge. Take two identical bar magnet . Place south pole of one magnet and north pole of the other magnet at the mid-point of the rod. Rub and drag the two magnets against the rod taking one magnet to the end A (Mark the ends as A and B) and the other magnet to the end B. Now, lift the bar magnet and again put them at the mid-point of the rod . Repeat the dragging proces at least 40-50 times . Thus, , the rod AB (we have marked the points earlier) wil become a magnet .

Note:- The process of magnetization will better work on steel bar/ strip .
