In the old days, parents gave importance to the birth of the male child because he can support his family financially and take care of his parents when they old. They consider the female child as a burden because have to spend more money on her marriage and also on the other occasion of her life.
The main reason behind the parent's love with a male child is continuing the family name and karma for the parents is always the liability of the son. Most of the parents concerned about those reasons for having a male child. That is why the love of having a male child in life is increased.
