Dear Diary:
If I were not so foolish, I would not be wasting my talent with these cooks who don’t even know how to peel potatoes! Elders have rightly said, “Pride hath a fall!” I am the living example of ‘SHOW OFF’. This boastful attitude of mine has brought a halt to my entire career! I shall be a cook all my life! Though initially, my knowledge helped me. I became the focus of attention of every co-trainee and even the Sergeant was appreciative of my general knowledge and awareness.
Everything was going so well, in my favour. Drill, parade, training, etc, I was doing excellent. The instructors all held me in great esteem until that fateful day. I will never ever forget that drowsy summer afternoon when everything changed for me for the worse. I did not know Corporal Turnbull would turn out to be so sensitive on the issue. In retrospect I realize, I was wrong. I crossed the limits of decency. He gave me one chance. But I did not stop! I should not have made the second comment about starting the lecture with characteristics of the grenade. In the long run, knowledge does not matter. Etiquette, ethics, decency, and respect for seniors matters. I feel so choked up with these cooks in the kitchen. But I will work harder on the areas I have been lagging in. I am sure I will regain my lost status and rank.
