NH4Cl is sublimable. NaCl is soluble in water. Sand is neither soluble nor sublimable. I think you get the point. The mixture taken in a China dish, covered with an inverted, plugged funnel is heated. NH4Cl sublimes and the vapours condense in the tail of the funnel. It can be scratched off. The residue is agitated in water. NaCl dissolves and goes into the solution, leaving behind the sand. The sand is filtered off. The filtrate is evaporated to get the crystals of NaCl
