Simplest activity to check a substances acidity or basicity is with the help of litmus paper. Add few drops of the given solution to the litmus paper and observe it's colour change. If it's changed to red, then it's an acid. If it's changed to blue, then it's base. If it stays unchanged in both red and blue litmus paper, then it's neutral.

Aim: to show the use of litmus paper

Materials required: test tube, sample solutions, blue litmus paper, red litmus paper, dropper

Method: 1) collect all the samples in different test tubes.

2) put two to three drops of each sample on different red litmus paper and note. Then put drops of sample on different blue litmus paper and note.

3) if the color of blue litmus changes to red, it is acid and if it doesn't change, it is base or neutral

4) if the colour of red litmus changes to blue, it is base and if it doesn't change, it is acid or neutral
