The growing use of plastics is a course a menace in society. We can't see a place where plastic is not seen. It is omnipresent. In fact, we are totally dependent on plastics for our daily life activities. With the passage of time, the use of plastic is concreting its feet and the menace is on the higher side. Plastic, being a non-biodegradable, is an environmental hurdle. It pollutes land, water, and air. Plastic takes more than a thousand years to decompose in small pieces which seep down the soil and release harmful chemicals. These chemicals further pollute water. Plastic bags not only pollute the atmosphere during their manufacturing and after being discarded but are also lethal to aquatic life. Plastic is lighter than water, thus, it floats over it ceasing the mixture of oxygen from the air into water.
Instead of using plastic, we should shift our demand to the use of biodegradable stuff. Educating retailers, ecologists, the common man, school kids about the ill-effects of plastic may prove useful. Though it is difficult to get rid of its use a variety of alternatives and firm decisions against it can make it happen.
