Jalandhar: October 28, 2019. Fire accidents are the worst disasters. A major fire broke out at firecrackers market on Sunday leading to massive destruction of slums nearby. The conflagration gutted 175 makeshift shacks and 70 vehicles.
People had just started visiting the stalls to buy crackers when all of a sudden a rocket fell on the heap of crackers at a stall. A rocket must have flown from there and fell on a hut in the slum. Within seconds the place was converted into a blazing inferno. A devastating fire engulfed the whole area. The people ran out of their houses to save their lives. More than twenty people were badly burnt. Five fire brigade tankers succeeded in dousing the fire in four hours. Poisonous smoke billowed from the slum and enveloped the sky.
Local people rushed to the site for rescue operations. Police Commissioner and other senior officers visited the spot and took stock of the situation. The state Government has declared free medical care to all the injured ones whose treatment is going on at various hospitals.
