We are asked the question about how we can observe a rainbow sometimes and not at other times. The answer to this phenomenon will be as under:

Rainbows are formed when the sunlight is scattered with the help of raindrops falling from the sky. In the case given, the fountain drops can be taken to stand for the raindrops.

So while crossing the lake that was springing from a fountain when we crossed this, the sun rays were scattered and hence the rainbow was observed.

Most of these drops of the fountain are spherical and this provided the conditions for the formation of the rainbow. But when we went away from this particular place the rainbow was not seen as there were no drops of fountains springing there.
