Transcription can vary from Basic to Verbatim. There are different style requirements for transcription. There are a number of tags which are used. For example tags like [laughter], [phone ringing], [applause], [music] are used to indicate what is going on in the speaker's environment. The tag [unintelligible] is used when the sound can be heard but the words are not clear.
