Answer:
When I was in 6th grade, my kindergarten teacher mother left me instructions to whip up a meatloaf for dinner. She left the recipe on the kitchen table, and I was to put all the ingredients in and put it in the oven. I was eleven. I had never cooked anything, but I read the recipe and put in exactly what it said to put in.
Unfortunately, nowhere on the recipe did it suggest stirring the ingredients. The stuff went in the oven at 350, just like I was instructed, but the egg was just sort of lying there and nothing was stirred. Mom came home and let me know that my efforts were pretty weak.
I protested, “Show me where it says to stir?” She couldn’t because it didn’t. And I was eleven. I made homemade rolls that had to be baked. I took them to school with me on a plastic plate.
I planned to bake them and have them done at the time my planning period came up, at which time I would drive them to his house and leave them on the front porch steps, so that, when he and his family came back from the park, they’d have warm rolls. My mother was so happy with tears of joy when she saw my warm rolls. We all enjoyed ourselves a lot during mom's birthday and I tried my best to do the cooking!
It was so much fun that day...
