The mirror is convex because when we change the position of object, the image remain virtual and erect and we know that at any position of object from convex mirror the image is always virtual and erect.
A concave mirror is also formed virtual and erect image of object placed with in the focal length and when object move away from the concave mirror the image become real and inverted.
