if the above situation was the case with my friend i would :
ask them if they were facing any problems related to studies
i would go along with them to study in the library trying to support them
i wouldn't allow them to spend all their time in the library as it is unhealthy to do so ( all work and no play makes jack a dull boy )
if the change in their behavior was sudden and drastic i would talk to them or their parents trying to find out the reason ( so that i could help them reduce the pressure )
