There are only two possibilities of selecting 5 fruits where apples are higher in number than oranges.

Given: a box contains 8 apples and 4 oranges.

To Find: The possibility of of selecting apples such that it is more than oranges.

Solution:

Total no of fruits= 8 apples and 4 oranges

No. fruits to be selected= 5

Possibility 1= 4 apples + 1 orange

Possibility 2= 3 apples + 2 oranges

In both the selections total numbers of fruits are 5.

  • There is no other possibility where apples are selected more than the oranges.
  • There could have been more possibilities only if number of selections was higher than 5, as after selecting 5 fruits there are still 7 fruits left in the box.

Henceforth, There are only two possibilities of selecting fruits where apples are higher in number.
