Answer:

Step1: Fill 5 litre jug.

Step2:Take out 3 litre from it by using empty 3 litre jug.

Step3:Now totally drain out the 3 litre jug.

Step4:Transfer the 2 litre from larger jug to smaller jug.

Now the larger Jug is empty and smaller jug has 1 litre free space.

Step5: Fill the 5 litre jug.

Step6:Transfer some litres from larger jug(5 litres) to smaller jug (2 litres) till it gets totally full.

Step7:Now the 5 litre jug is containing 4 litre because the 1 litres is transferred to the smaller jug.

Alternate Answer:

Step1:Fill the empty 5 litre jug by 3 litre jug.

Step 2:Fill the remaining 2 litre space of 5 litre jug by using again the 3 litre jug.

Step3:Now there is 1 litre leftover in the 3 litre jug.

Step4:Drain the full 5 litre jug to empty.

Step5:Transfer that 1 litre leftover from smaller jug to larger jug.

Step6: Fill 3 litre jug and pour it back to the 1 litre in the 5 litre jug. Hence 3+1=4 litres in 5 litre jug.
