The excitement was because the name of the person who tried to make communication with John using an Ouija board owned by Mrs Sprinkle and Mrs Hunt was Helen. Incidentally, Helen had visited John earlier as well in the form of a ghost. What made things exciting was that John and his wife did not know any real person by this name.
