You’ll probably recognise this frightening ornament as a Jack-O-Lantern. But from which foodstuff are they usually crafted?

Dear student,

Jack O Lanterns are usually carved from pumpkins. I would like to give a brief insight about it's name. There used to be an Irish folktale namely Stingy Jack, and in Ireland on a wide basis potatoes turnips etc served as Canvas. Thus, it gave rise to this mind boggling tradition. This tradition of frightening Lantern is usually decorated for holdiay of Halloween to keep evil spirits away.

A jack-o-lantern is a Halloween special lantern made with carved pumpkin, turnip or some other root vegetable.

Therefore they are made from carving a pumpkin or any other root vegetable.

When made with a pumpkin, the top of the pumpkin is sliced off, and the insides are scooped out, and then the additional features like eyes and mouth are made.
