you may notice that sometimes barks of the tree damaged more than a half , even then the tree is alive . how is this possible ?

THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE PRESENCE OF CORK. CORK IS A LIGHT DEAD CELL OF PLANT WHICH PROTECTS IT FROM SUCH HARSH CONDITION.THEY ARE FIREPROOF TOO TO SOME EXTENT.
