A. Rectilinear motion

Examples :-

1. A car moving on a straight road.

2. Bullet shot from a gun.

B. curvilinear motion

Examples :-

1. A ball thrown at an angle.

2. A car moving on a curved road.

c. Rotational motion

Examples :-

1. spinning wheel

2. the wheel of a moving bicycle

D. periodic motion

Examples :-

1. the motion of a pendulum of a clock.

2. the needle of a sewing machine moving up and down.

There are different types of motion:-

a) Rectilinear motion - When an object follows a straight-line path, that is, the direction of velocity is constant, it is said to possess rectilinear motion. Example - Elevators, An object performing free-fall motion  

b) Curvilinear motion - When an object follows a curved path, it is said to be in curvilinear motion. Example - stone projected into air at an angle, movement of basketball, etc  

c) Rotational motion- When an object moves on a fixed axis, it is said to be in rotatory motion. Example - rotation of the earth about the sun, motion of the blades of a fan, etc  

d) Periodic motion - The motion which repeats itself in a fixed duration of time is called periodic motion. Example  - motion of hands of a clock, pendulum, etc
