Two men were arrested on Tuesday for pickpocketing on a KMB bus after several days of surveillance by the police.
The suspects, surnamed He and Chao, both 43, entered Hong Kong from Hunan province on two-way permits on Sunday, Sing Tao Daily reports, citing investigators.
Chao is linked to at least four cases of pickpocketing on buses this year.
The duo operated on the Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei routes such as 281, 1A and 2A, using sharp cutters to slash their victims' back pockets.
They are said to have stolen about HK$12,000 (US$1,545).
Police used CCTV footage and information from the victims and witnesses to identify the suspects.
He and Chao were spotted by plainclothes officers on Tuesday boarding a 268X bus in Public Square Street in Jordan for Hung Shui Kiu in Yuen Long. The officers followed the suspects.
During the bus ride, the two hit a 57-year-old passenger by slashing open his back pocket and stealing his wallet with HK$7,100 cash inside.
The officers arrested the pair as they were about to get off in Cherry Street in Tai Kok Tsui. The money was recovered.
