Answer:

It was one of our usual summer visits to Dingri, our  maternal grandparents’ village. One day, Amit and I  were lost in our confab while taking bath in the river.  After a while, we went a little afar. I saw Amit dipping  in and out like a fish. Suddenly, to my dismay, I lost  sight of Amit. I didn’t hear any scream or cry  also. Even the bank was empty. As I searched under  the surface, I saw Amit struggling with something. I sped towards him. His eyes were half-closed but his  hands were trying to unknot something. A big yellow  snake had wound around his left leg, gradually trying  to move upwards. It was puzzling to me how Amit  was still trying to fight the snake. I was confused  if I should drag him to the bank with the snake or  unwound the snake.

On one hand, I raised my hand and cried ‘help’  and on another, slapped Amit to keep his senses alive  and unknot the snake. A man took a plunge into the  river and we dragged Amit to the bank. The snake  had bitten Amit. We rushed him to the hospital 15 km  away from the river. Amit had gone blue. With the  almighty’s grace and doctor’s effort, Amit came out  of the danger after three days in the hospital. Today,  while passing by the river, we exchange quick glances  of fright.
