My Dream Career Essay
For my Dream Career, I have chosen medical transcription. The reason
being I have four kids and with this profession you can work from your own
home or an office. When I first had my kids I had decided to stay at home
with them but there are not many careers that have that option. In the
following paragraphs you will read more about this career and what the
outcome of this career looks like in the future.
Some days you will do 40 reports, other days you will only get a dozen
reports done. To do a report you would dial into the company through a
Dictaphone machine, which is like a telephone with headphones, then you
punch in your code and it patches you into the hospital or office. The doctor
tells you who the patient is. You bring up the program on the computer and
find the patient and the correct exam. Then you type up the report, and send
it to the company.
They look for a person who is self-motivated and who likes working
alone. You have to know your personality. You have to be task oriented. You
need to sit for long periods of time, and you must type well. You must be a
good listener. You just have to get used a doctor's voice, accents can be
difficult. To get your clients paper work right, you have to listen carefully and
understand what the doctor says correctly.
You will definitely need to take a medical terminology course and a
medical transcription course. First you should take the medical terminology
course because it would be hard to understand a doctor if you had no idea
what the medical words meant. It should then be followed by the medical
transcription course so you know how to fill in the reports
