He can convince his parents by showing how good he is in those subjects. He can put up his desire in front of them and I know that there are no parents who don't want the happiness of their child. He can tell him that science is not everything there are so many careers which don't need this subject.

He can a lawyer, a teacher or an officer, and anything he want to be.
