Answers
Well if my friend had opted math in spite of bad aptitude for it I would have said the following sentences to him:
1. Well, dear friend, if you really want to opt for math, you need to either change your total attitude to math or change the subject. Well math is known as exact science. In order to perform well in mathematics, you need to have basic, innate inclination for it. You must be naturally comfortable with it. Next you must daily practice math at least for two to three hours. If you can afford spending time solving math sums, pondering over the complexities of certain concepts, only then you can cope with the stress and demands of the subject. If you will take it with lackadaisical attitude, postponing your practice until some next time in future, you are going to face much more stress that will rear its head after poor performance in tests and examination.
2. If you have really made up your mind to pursue math, then I would advise you to just go ahead. Even though you might not have the aptitude, you can do it. Have self belief and conviction in your choice and give your 100% to learning it. As the saying goes ‘Nothing is impossible’, make math your first priority. Practice, practice, and practice math in all your free time. Initially, you might face some difficulties, but with perseverance you will overcome them. The seed of all achievement lies in every human heart; all that is required is the careful nurturing and husbandry of the seed. Rashida Rowe’s words are quite relevant in this context: ‘Sow the seeds of hard-work, determination, and endurance, and reap the rewards of achievement, success, and self-fulfillment.’ All great achievers of mankind such as Newton, Leonardo Da Vinci, Lincoln, Einstein, Addison, Mahatama Gandhi, Dr. Kalam, etc. worked very patiently and perseveringly in their chosen fields. Success was a blessing in response to their dedication to their work. So taking their example, you too can do wonders in math.
