POEM : THE FROG AND THE NIGHTINGALE
POET : VIKRAM SETH
ANSWER :
_________
In this world of cut-throat competition, the poet, Vikram Seth wants to hit hard on the minds of the readers that talent in the present times has to face a stiff competition from all sides. Where the talented ones burn themselves day and night to receive the accolades of success, it is the influential ones who always run away with the cake.
This directly applies to the character of the nightingale whose talent is killed before it could openly bloom.
By the statement that " Your song must be your own", the frog creates a Irony here. Instead of being incapable in singing a melodious song himself , he instructs the nightingale that he will teach her singing and also says that our songs must be our own.
Though nightingale was right at her place, she had to risk her life because of her ignorant behaviour towards Frog.
