Z is a nonmetal with a molar mass of 12.01 g/mol, and Y is a nonmetal with a molar mass of 19.00 g/mol. They combine to form ZY4.

What is the percent composition of ZY4?

38.73 % Z, 61.27 % Y
A.38.73 % Z, 61.27 % Y

B.20.00 % Z, 80.00 % Y

C.12.01 % Z, 19.00 % Y

D.13.65 % Z, 86.35 % Y

Given info : Z is a nonmetal with a molar mass of 12.01 g/mol, and Y is a nonmetal with a molar mass of 19.00 g/mol. They combine to form ZY4.

To find : The percentage composition of Z and Y in ZY4.

solution : atomic mass of Z = 12.01 g/mol

atomic mass of Y = 19 g/mol

so, molar mass of ZY4 = 12.01 + 19 × 4

= 12.01 + 76

= 88.01 g/mol

percentage composition of Z = atomic mass of Z/molar mass of ZY4 × 100

= 12.01/88.01 × 100

= 1201/88.01

= 13.65 %

percentage composition of Y = 100 % - percentage composition of Z = 100 % - 13.65 %

= 85.35%

Therefore the correct option is (D)
