We have
z = sin(π/6) + cos(π/6)

This is radian system of measuring the angles.
In radian system π refers to 180°. Sometimes this is written as π with a small 'r' at the top.i.e.π®

So, now
z = sin(180°/6)+cos(180°/6)
=sin30°+cos30°
= 1/2 + √3/2 [as sin30° = ½ and cos30°= √3/2]
= (1+√3)/2

So the value of z is (1+√3)/2
