The octane is one of the molecules found in petrol (gasoline). Modern cracking uses zeolite as the catalyst. These are complex a luminosity cares, and are large lattices of aluminium, silicon and oxygen atoms carrying a negative charge. They are, of course, associated with positive ions such as sodium ions.

Zeolites have three applications ---->
1)Catalysts
2) Ion exchange
3) Gas separation.
Zeolites are used as catalysts in reactions of organic compounds.It is used as catalyst because it has the ability to promote acid-base and metal induced reactions.The pores of zeolite are the reason for this ability.The reactions readily take place in these pores. And as we know catalysts give a boost to the reactions, hence clearly zeolites are used as catalysts.
