Zinc lies above hydrogen in the reactivity series, so it displaces Hydrogen from dilute acids and thus liberates hydrogen gas. But copper lies in the bottom of the reactivity series , so it cannot displace hydrogen from dilute acids and thus does not liberate hydrogen gas.
