Zinc metal can be extracted by reduction of its oxide with carbon.

Zinc oxide is heated with carbon produces zinc metal.

ZnO(s) + C(s) --------> Zn (s)+ CO(g)

Zinc Oxide is reduced to Zinc

Carbon is oxidized to Carbon monoxide.

HEY!!

The balanced chemical reaction is as follows:

ZnO + C → Zn + CO

Carbon is oxidised and the substance reduced.
