Zinc virtually has no reaction with cold water. Zinc reacts with steam to give zinc oxide and hydrogen gas.
zinc + steam = zinc oxide + hydrogen.
Zn(s) + H2O(g) = ZnO(s) + H2(g)
Tin, lead, copper, silver, gold and platinum
do not react with water or steam.
zinc + steam = zinc oxide + hydrogen.
Zn(s) + H2O(g) = ZnO(s) + H2(g)
Tin, lead, copper, silver, gold and platinum
do not react with water or steam.

When zinc reacts with stream we get zinc oxide and hydrogen gas are produced as product. The hydrogen gas produced is in form of bubbles.
Reaction of zinc with steam is similar to that of reaction between magnesium and stream but the rate of reaction is very slow in case of zinc compared to that of magnesium.
Zinc reacts slower in stream and even does not glow brightly as it is converted to zinc oxide.
Heating will increase rate of reaction. Zinc does not react with cold water at all hence we use stream instead of water.
The equation of reaction is as follow:--
Zinc(s)+Stream(g)-------->Zinc oxide(s)+Hydrogen(g)
Zn(s)+H2O(g)------->ZnO(s)+H2(g)
Metals like tin, lead, copper, silver, gold do not react either with cold water or with stream.
