Given :   0.5x(x-0.4)/0.35-0.5(x-2.71)/0.42=x+6.1

To find :  Value of x

Solution:

0.5x(x-0.4)/0.35   - 0.5(x-2.71)/0.42  =  x + 6.1

=> x(x-0.4)/0.7   - 0.5(x-2.71)/0.42  =  x + 6.1

multiplying both sides by 0.42

=> 0.6x(x - 0.4)  - 0.5(x - 2.71)  = 0.42(x + 6.1)

=> 0.6x²  -0.24x -0.5x   + 1.355 = 0.42x   + 2.562

=>  0.6x²  -1.16x  -1.207  = 0

=> 600x² - 1160x  - 1207  = 0

x  = (-(-1160)  ± √(1160² - 4*600(-1207)) )/(2 * 600)

x =  (1160 ± 2059.7)/1200

= 2.683   , -0.75
