(1/3) + (-2)
 = (1/3) - 2               [as (+)(-) = (-)]
 = ( (1)1 - (2)3 ) / 3    [ using LCM ]
 = (1 - 6) / 3  
 = -5/3
Hence, 1/3 + (-2) = -5/3
