The merry men walked up through the Willow Plantation to a place on Watling Street but there was no one
in sight. They walted by the street and by and by with bow in hand looking towards the forest of Sherwood
they saw in the distance, a rider coming towards them. He seemed very sad and tired. Though he was a
knight he had no armour on and looked feeble. They stopped him and were struck by his appearance, for
he looked like a man who had lost all interest in life. His clothes were disorderly. He looked neither to the
right nor to the left, but drooped his head sadly. The men decided that this was the right visitor to be taken
to Robin.
