Answer:

Let the numbers be x and x+1

x(x+1) = 42

x² + x - 42 = 0

x² + 7x - 6x - 42 = 0

x(x+7) - 6(x+7) = 0

(x+7)(x-6) = 0

x+7 = 0 or x-6 = 0

x = - 7 or x = 6

Since the numbers are natural,

x = 6

The numbers are x and x+1

ie, 6 and 7

Hope it helps....

Step-by-step explanation:

let one number be x

second number = x+1

ATQ,

x(x+1) = 42

x² + x = 42

x² + x - 42 = 0

x² + 7x - 6x - 42 = 0

x(x+7) - 6(x+7) = 0

(x-6)(x+7)

>> x = -7 [rejected since -7 is not a natural number]

>> x = 6

Therefore, other number = x+1= 7

Therefore the numbers are 6 & 7
