Case I

      Total weight = 250kg

      Father’s weight + Son’s weight = 250

      x + y = 250       ————————— equation (I)

Case II

      Father’s weight = 10kg more than 3 times Son’s weight

      Father’s weight = 10kg + 3*(Son’s weight)

       x = 10 + 3y

       substituting x = 10 + 3y in equation (I)

       3y + y + 10 = 250

       4y = 250 - 10

       4y = 240

       y = 60kg

     

∴    Son’s weight = y = 60kg
