Nephridia are organs found in earthworms in pairs and perform the same functions as vertebrate kidneys. Nephridia are basically of two types that are Metanephridia and Protonephridia.

Nephridia occur in two forms. The simpler, more primitive protonephridia, found in flatworms, ribbon worms, and rotifers, are usually scattered among the other body cells. More advanced, segmented invertebrates, such as earthworms, possess the more complex metanephridia, usually arranged in pairs.

Loop of Henle, long U-shaped portion of the tubule that conducts urine within each nephron of the kidney of reptiles, birds, and mammals. The principal function of the loop of Henle is in the recovery of water and sodium chloride from urine.
