The crude birth rate refers to the number of crude births occurring during the year per 1000 population, estimated at midyear. To calculate the rate of population change, the crude death rate is subtracted from the crude birth rate. This calculation does not take migration into account. The birth rate is referred to as crude because it does not take into account age or sex differences amongst the population.
Live births are the births of children that showed any sign of life whereas The crude birth rate is the ratio of the number of live births during the year to the average population in that year. The value is expressed per 1 000 persons.
