1). Pedigree contains information about genetic diseases, that runs in a family. Pedigree is never drawn for a single person.

2). Shaded figures are used to show a trait.

3). Male are square, females are circles.

4). Dominant or recessive traits are identified in the following way:
    a). If the trait is present in all generations of the family then that trait is said to be dominant.
    b). If the trait is present in some generation and is not there is some then the trait is called recessive.

5). A family pedigree can be helpful to a couple wanting to have  children as it will show the probability of  their children getting the genetic disease. For eg. If a wife is a carrier of colour blindness and husband is colour blind, then it will not be advisable to have children as, if the child is a girl then she would not survive because colour blind girls are not able to survive, they die soon after or before the birth. And if they have a boy then the boy would be colour blind.
