When water is in the form of steam. Iron is very inactive with water but at the high temperature it gets reacted with hot steam.Steam produces more severe burns as compare to boiling water and temperature of the liquid doesn't change when it boils.When glowing hot iron in placed in very hot water it releases hydrogen gad and forms Ferric oxide.
