10. A room is 11.5 m long, 8.5 m broad and 6.5 m high. It has one door measuring (3 m by 1 m) and
three windows each measuring (2m by 1 m). Find the cost of painting its four walls at 140 per

lateral area of surface = 2 (l + b) × h

so,

= 2 (11.5 + 8.5) × 6.5

= 2 (20) × 6.5

= 280 m^2

given that it has one door and three Windows

then,

area of door = 3 × 1 = 3 m^2

area of window = 2×1 = 2 m^2

there are three Windows so total area of Windows = 3 × 2 = 6 m^2

Then the area where we want to paint = 280 - 3 - 6 = 271 m^2

cost of painting = 271 × 140

= 37940 Rs
