Answer:

55

Step-by-step explanation:

Let n be the amount spent on books or a calculator before tax. Then

n+.15n=345

1.15n=345

n=300

And

n+.1n=110

1.1n=110

n=100

The total amount of sales tax is (345-300)+(110-100), or 55. ☺☺☺☺

Hi friend,

Solution :-

Let , the price of the story books to be x , and the price of the calculator be y.

VAT = 15% of x

= x × 15/100

= 3x/20

VAT = 10 % of y

= y × 10/100

= y/10

Selling price of story books = x + 3x/20

= 23x/20

S.P of the claculator = y + y/10

= 11y/ 10

But selling price of the books and calculator 345 and r.s 110 respectively.

So,

23x/20 = 345

Or, x = 345× 20/ 23

Or, x = 300

So,

11y/ 10= 110

Or, y = 110 × 10/ 11

Or, y = 100

Therefore , total price = ( 345+ 100 ) = 400

Let , the VAT on whole transaction be r%

So, r × 400 / 100

Or, 4r

Thus , 455 / 4r

Or, r = 13.75

➡ VAT on whole transaction is 13.75%...i hope it helps you
