SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

The average age of a group of friends is 32 years. One more friend of age 25 years joined the group. How. many friends are there in the group now if the sum of their ages is 249 years

A) 5

B) 6

C) 8

D) 9

EVALUATION

Let there were x friends in the group when the average age of a group of friends is 32 years

So sum of their ages = 32x

Now One more friend of age 25 years joined the group

Now sum of their ages = 32x + 25

It is to be noted that now number of friends

= x + 1

Again it is given that the sum of their ages is 249 years

So by the given condition

32x + 25 = 249

 \implies \sf{32x = 224}

 \implies \sf{x = 7}

So total number friends in the group

= 7 + 1

= 8

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is C) 8
