Let the present age of P and Q be 3x and 4x respectively.

Ten years ago, P was half of Q in age

=> 2(3x – 10) = (4x – 10)

=> 6x – 20 = 4x – 10

=> 2x = 10

=> x = 5

Total sum of their present ages

= 3x + 4x

= 7x

= 7 * 5

= 35

Answer:

Presently,

p:q=3:4

p/q=3/4

4p=3q

4p+3q=0...(i)

Ten years ago,

p-10=(q-10)/2

2(p-10)=q-10

2p-20=q-10

2p-20-q+10=0

2p-q-10=0

2p-q=10...(ii)

solving i & ii,

p=15  &  q=20
