10g of sugar is dissolved in 40 g of water what is the percentage of solute by mass

10 g of sugar to 40g of water the solution becomes 50 g.

Percentage of the sugar solute = Mass of solute / Mass of solution * 100
= 10 / 50 * 100
= 20 %
