Step-by-step explanation:

speed of boat = X

speed of the streem = Y = 1.5 kmph

speed in up streem= X - Y = X - 1,5

time = 5 1/2 hours= 11/2 hours

distance = speed × time

=( X -15) × 11/2

speed in down streem X-+Y = X + 1. 5

time =5 hour

distance= speed × time

= (X + 1.5) 5

in both cases distance is same

(X -1.5)11/2 = ( X + 1.5) 5

11X - 16.5= (X + 1.5)× 10

11X - 16.5 = 10 X + 15

15+16.5 = 11 X -10 X

31.5= X

speed of boat = X = 31.5 kmph in still water
