Given :-

----> Four vertices of a parallelogram,

  • A(-3,-2)
  • B(-6,a)
  • C(-3,-4)
  • D(0,-1)

----> Value of 'a' is negative.

----> AB = CD

To find :-

Value of a.

Solution :-

Midpoint formula = ( x1+x2/2 , y1+y2/2 )

Now,

AB = CD

---> ( -3+(-6)/2 , -2+a/2 ) = ( -3+0/2 , -4+(-1)/2 )

---> ( -3-6/2 , -2+a/2 ) = ( -3+0/2 , -4-1/2 )

equating y coordinates,

---> -2+a/2 = -4-1/2

---> -2+a = -4-1

---> -2+a = -5

---> a = -5+2

---> a = -3
