16. Two numbers are such that one of them is four times of the other. Find the numbers if their sum is 45.​

One of the two numbers is 4 times the other.

Let the numbers be x and y respectively.

➡ y = 4x

Now, given the sum of the two numbers = 45

➡ x + y = 45 -------(i)

Putting the value of y = 4x in equation (i)

➡ x + 4x = 45

➡ 5x = 45

➡ x = 45/5

➡ x = 9

Therefore the two numbers are :-

• x = 9

• y = 4x = 36

VERIFICATION :-

= x + y

= 9 + 36

= 45
